With a lifelong love of works of fantasy (her first cats were named Pippin and Merry) and a creative bent to her nature, it seemed so natural that Rebecca Simkin would eventually want to write her own novels in the genre.
You won’t find much short fiction written by her, but Rebecca’s written several novels to date, and will be publishing them in starting in 2018. Rebecca has posted her fantasy, Unsheathed, on Wattpad.com. Her novel Ungloved is also available there in a complete draft form. These have been completely overhauled and edited, and will be published oncee complete under the new names “A Victory All Her Own” and “A Glory All Her Own” respectively.
Currently, Rebecca is a member of the Bloor West Writers group which meets weekly to review and support each other in their writing endeavours.
In addition to her writing, Rebecca works as a non-profit sector fundraiser, planning galas and other special events, coordinating volunteers, writing press releases, direct mail letters and funding proposals. She volunteers on the administration of the Sunburst Awards for Canadian Literature of the Fantastic where she is currently their Chair.
Rebecca loves to bicycle and hike in the summer and cross-country skis in the winter. She also loves travelling, and has visited many museums and national parks.
Born in Chicago, Illinois while her parents were students there, Rebecca emigrated to Montreal, Canada, at the age of six with her family.
A graduate of York University in Toronto, Rebecca holds a BFA in Visual Arts. She is also a graduate of the Humber College School of Creative Writing and attended the Banff Centre for the Arts in a Theatre Internship Program. She currently lives in Toronto with her husband and daughter and no cats.
