With a lifelong love of works of fantasy (her first cats were named Pippin and Merry) and a creative bent to her nature, it seemed so natural that Rebecca Simkin would eventually want to write her own novels in the genre.
Rebecca has written a number of short stories, and several novels to date, the first of which she is preparing to publish in 2023. She has posted her two fantasy novels in a middle draft form on Wattpad.com: Unsheathed, and Ungloved. These have been completely overhauled and professionally edited, and will be available once completed under the new names “A Victory All Her Own” and “A Glory All Her Own.”
Currently, Rebecca is a member of Ink*Specs a speculative fiction writers’ circle, as well as the Bloor West Writers group who support each other in their writing endeavours and the Writer’s Community of Durham Region, one of the largest and most active writer’s groups in Canada.
Rebecca is retired from working as a non-profit sector fundraiser, where she planned galas and other special events, coordinated volunteers, and wrote press releases, direct mail letters and funding proposals. She volunteers on the administration of the Sunburst Awards for Canadian Literature of the Fantastic and is a regional leader for the Soaring Spirits International organization supporting local widows.
Rebecca loves to bicycle and hike in the summer and cross-country skis in the winter. She also loves traveling, and has visited many museums and national parks.
Born in Chicago, Illinois while her parents were students there, Rebecca emigrated to Montreal, Canada, at an early age with her family.
A graduate of York University in Toronto, Rebecca holds a BFA in Visual Arts. She is also a graduate of the Humber College School of Creative Writing and attended the Banff Centre for the Arts in their Theatre Internship Program. She currently lives in Toronto.
